Alanna Carson, an optometrist from Ballymoney in Co Antrim, had been working with the New Foundations Christian medical charity in Nigeria when she was taken with three other United Kingdom colleagues three weeks ago.

The British High Commission and Nigerian authorities negotiated the release of Alanna Carson, David Donovan and Shirley Donovan.

"The FCO said it had been a traumatic time for those involved", BBC said in its report.

A Ballymoney woman has been freed with David Donovan and Shirley Donovan and have been flown back to the United Kingdom following their release from a horrific kidnapping of an armed gang who abducted them in Nigeria's southern Delta region.
