Jeff Bezos Is Now Worth £100 Billion After Amazon Black Friday Sales

The last billionaire to achieve that milestone was Microsoft, Bill Gates.

Online purchases for the day are up 18.4 percent over a year ago, according to data from Adobe Analytics, and investors are betting the company will take an outsized share of online spending over the gifting season.

On Friday, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos became the only person with a $100bn (£75bn) fortune, seeing his wealth creep up by $2.4bn thanks to a 2% jump in Amazon's shares.

Black Friday sales pushed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to a net worth of $100 billion, according to Bloomberg, which tracks the real-time net worth of some of the world's richest people.

Just this week, Bezos rose another $2.4 billion, which gave him the final push to reach the 12-figure net worth.

He is trailed by Bill Gates - who saw his fortune reach above $100bn in 1996, the first in the world - when the value of Microsoft surged on Wall Street.

Bezos has surpassed Gates before - but only briefly.

Bezos hasn't given or pledged as much to charity as his billionaire contemporaries like Gates or Warren Buffett. That stake alone is worth more than $93.5 billion as of Friday's closing price of $1,186 a share.

Bezos has been giving away Amazon shares worth about $500 million every year since 2002. In June, he tweeted a solicitation for ideas on a philanthropy strategy.
