Macy's issues statement about Black Friday transaction issues

Apparently, Macy's wasn't the only store experiencing issues around Black Friday.

Consumers attempting to buy things from the Macy's website or the app appeared to be experiencing similar issues.

Macy's was hit by a credit-card processing issue on an unfortunate day - Black Friday.

Customers took to Twitter on Friday to complain about credit card machines not working in stores and online accounts not working.

London Subway Station Evacuated After Reports Of Shots Fired
Unconfirmed reports on social media indicated that people were running away from the scene and locking themselves in shops. Oxford Circus station in London has been evacuated because of an "incident", police said. "Avoid area if possible".

"We have added additional associates to the floor (and) are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible", Macy's spokeswoman Radina Russell told Reuters in an emailed statement, though for anxious shoppers, it's likely it wasn't quickly enough.

The glitch marks the latest headache for a retailer that's trying to get back on its feet.

Word began percolating on social media around noon on Friday from shoppers across the country.

Macy's needs a strong holiday season. Macy's revenue dropped 6.1% in its most recent quarter, which marked the 11th straight quarterly decline.

The day had started off well for the retailer and many of its peers. The National Retail Federation has forecast total holiday retail sales to climb 3.6 to 4 percent in 2017.

The setback could not have come at a worse time for Macy's, which has made a major push to improve its performance this holiday shopping season. These include a partnership with Samsung and expanding its private label brands business.

The department store can't afford to turn off its customers.
