WhatsApp Experiences Roughly Hour-long Global Outage

Following the temporary outage, the users in many parts of world were unable to send or receive messages.

Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, reported that WhatsApp has been having issues since 2:38 a.m.

There are relatively few reports of problems from the Americas, but that might simply be a result of the fact that timezones mean that many people there are now asleep.

"Earlier today, WhatsApp users globally had trouble accessing the app for about an hour".

The supposed system outage for Whatsapp lasted for nearly an hour and was also felt in some parts of Asia, such as in Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, TechCrunch reported that the outage was most likely caused by a software code bug and not by a problematic data center.

Many users took to various social media platforms to express their complaints and grievances with the service being down. But once a user is into a chat, the app just shows a "connecting" message that never resolves itself, and so new messages can't be sent or received.

WhatsApp allows consumers to share photos, messages, videos, and even allows for phone calls to be made through the internet on its application.
