Germany withdraws diplomat from North Korea

When Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was asked about U.S. foreign policy measures implemented toward Russia, he quipped that he could hardly distinguish between current U.S. President Donald Trump and his predecessor, Barack Obama.

He also flatly rejected a USA call to cut ties with Pyongyang over its nuclear and ballistic missile program, calling US policy towards North Korea deeply flawed.

Washington has upped pressure on countries with a diplomatic presence in North Korea in a bid to "shrink the footprint that North Korea has in any given country".

Speaking on a visit to Belarus on November 30, Lavrov also rejected a US call to sever ties with North Korea following its latest ballistic-missile test.

Lavrov said additional sanctions against North Korea, coupled with "large-scale" joint U.S.

"Naturally we are discussing with our European colleagues whether it's necessary to further increase the diplomatic pressure", he said. However, a later State Department statement seemed to suggest that the real focus should be on removing North Korean diplomats from other countries, rather than shuttering foreign embassies in Pyongyang.

At an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting late Wednesday, the United States said North Korea's leadership would be "utterly destroyed" if war were to break out. "It's sad", he said.

USA ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley on Wednesday called on all countries to sever ties with Pyongyang.

"One gets the impression that everything has been done on objective to make Kim Jong-un snap and carry out further inadvisable actions", Lavrov said, declaring that USA officials "should explain to us all what they're after".

While the Trump administration promised to impose new sanctions on North Korea for the intercontinental ballistic missile, ICBM, launch, North Korean state television stated that its weaponry "meets the goal of the completion of the rocket weaponry system development set by the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea)". "If they are looking for a reason to destroy North Korea, then they should say it straight and the American leadership should confirm it", Lavrov was quoted as saying", Lavrov said.
