New York Yankees: The potential of trading for Giancarlo Stanton

On Sunday evening, it was reported that the Marlins have agreed to the framework of Stanton trades with the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants.

Miami Marlins Giancarlo Stanton rumors have reached a new level, with the slugger reportedly in person during trade talks over the past few days.

However, Stanton still has the final say because of his no-trade clause, meaning he would need to approve any deal. While he has not publicly commented on trade possibilities, before the season ended he stressed his desire to win and said he does not want to be a part of another Marlins rebuild.

As of Sunday afternoon, one source said Stanton had not informed Miami of a decision. Stanton keeps his offseason home in Los Angeles.

Both deals are pending Stanton's approval.

The Dodgers, though, have their own very real tax situation - they were $50 million over the luxury tax threshold past year - and while they very much like Stanton, also have a bigger need in the rotation.

Cardinals officials intensified their pursuit of 2017 home-run king Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins by flying to Los Angeles to meet with Stanton's representation on Friday.

Buster Olney of ESPN added, "Friends of Stanton say that in his ideal world, he'd get to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers".

Morosi reported Thursday the Marlins were prepared to accept Giants second baseman Joe Panik and top prospects Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw in return for Stanton as long as San Francisco was willing to assume at least $250 million of the remaining $295 million on Stanton's contract. He appeared in eight games in St. Louis a year ago, striking out 10 in eight and a third innings.

That meant checking down when facing pressure instead of pushing the envelope, trying to get an explosive play downfield. The Packers grinded out a win to stay in the playoff race, though they trail NFC North leader Minnesota by four games.

The Giants have a backup plan if Giancarlo Stanton's deal falls through.
