United Kingdom queen laments terror attacks in Christmas message

The Queen, 91, began her message by referring to the technological changes that have happened since her first televised Christmas broadcast 60 years ago in 1957.

The 96-year-old prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, has been at the queen's side throughout her 65 years on the throne, and has regularly grabbed the headlines with his off-color comments.

The Queen visited some of the survivors of the suicide bomb explosion which was detonated in the foyer of the Manchester Arena after a concert by the singer Ariana Grande in May.

"This Christmas, I think of London and Manchester, whose powerful identities shone through over the past 12 months in the face of appalling attacks".

Rounding out a message about the home and family, the monarch continued her recent tradition of speaking openly about her Christian faith.

And she hinted at the arrival of new family members, with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry planning to marry in May, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expecting their third child in April.
