Banks in Hawick, Selkirk, Jedburgh, Duns, Eyemouth and Melrose are due to shut in the next 6 months.

RBS has announced it is closing 62 of its Scottish branches, putting 158 jobs at risk.

The redundancy programme will lead to about 680 redundancies and the RBS branch network is aiming to manage this process on a voluntary basis.

And as if all this weren't insult enough, Oglala Lakota journalist and Native Sun News Today publisher Tim Giago cited Trump's tone of voice.

RBS said that since 2014 the number of customers using branches had fallen by 40% and mobile transactions had increased by 73%.

Rob MacGregor, national officer at Unite, which is representing staff across RBS, believes "serious questions need to be asked about whether these closures mark the end of branch network banking".

The bank, which is still still 72 per cent owned by the taxpayer, has blamed the cuts on customers moving to bank online or on mobile.

Fourth quarter identical store sales are now projected to exceed 1.1%, although the company did not indicate by how much. Finally, Loring Wolcott & Coolidge Fiduciary Advisors LLP MA raised its stake in Kroger by 497.2% in the 2nd quarter.

An RBS spokesperson commented: "More and more of our customers are choosing to do their everyday banking online or on mobile".

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented: "This is terrible and very disappointing news for Skelmersdale residents and for the staff at the branch whose future may be unclear at this point".

"We have extended the time between announcing our decision and the branch closure to six months; this has been done so that we can ensure our customers have enough time to consider the right banking options for them and to give us time to support them one-to-one during the transition".

The announcement comes after the Government last week disclosed plans to dispose of about two-thirds of its stake in RBS, selling off about £15bn a year over five years from 2018/19.

Sellers also shared the note he had written, asking her to no longer shed tears for him because he is in a better place. This year marked the last year that those flowers would arrive. "I used to dread my birthday every year because of it".
