Galway battered with 140km/h gusts as Storm Eleanor gains pace

Forecasters said there was a "small chance" of injuries and danger to life from waves and "beach material".

The first storm of 2018 is due to make landfall this afternoon with Eleanor bringing winds of up to 130km/h.

With Storm Eleanor now in full force, it said that a gust of 139km/h was recorded at Mace Head Galway at 5pm.
