"LG Set To Reveal 88" 8K OLED TV At CES 2018

Well, just after teasing its latest 34-inch 5K monitor, LG has now unveiled a massive 88-inch OLED TV ahead of the official launch at CES 2018.

While it is more a tech demo unit rather than a consumer product at present, the 88-incher shows what is capable with OLED technology and how it can be utilised in future, when 8K content becomes more readily available.

"The 33 million self-emissive OLED pixels in each 8K OLED display create the more delicate images and unmatched picture quality that are already highly regarded in the UHD TV industry". You see unlike the current 4K resolution panels which are LED backlit, LCD panels the new display from LG is an OLED one. The show starts on 9 January, with press conferences and coverage to be found on Pocket-lint from a few days beforehand. The company has claimed that its QLED TVs are better than OLED TVs.

Prior to this, the largest OLED screen was at 77-inches and they were offered in 4K resolution. We've reviewed OLED 4K HDR TVs here at repeatedly and nearly without variation, our analysis of them has been exceptionally positive.

If one goes by the resolution, this will be the highest resolution OLED display and the largest one ever. So expect nothing less than that for a TV with double the resolution. Meanwhile, Samsung shifted from OLED to QLED panels previous year, making LG Display the only large-sized OLED display maker in the game. LG's 77-inch TV costs a whopping $20,000.

"OLED is clearly a next-generation technology leader and for this reason, LG Display is accelerating its research and development into OLED so that we can provide differentiated products to customers and markets", Kang added. Just recently, the company even got an approval from the South Korean trade ministry to set up a new organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel production facility in China. As Engadget notes, this new TV from the company has the biggest OLED display in the world with the highest resolution.
