AR Unemployment Holds Steady at 3.7 Percent

The Labor Department says the unemployment rate was down from 3.1 percent for December and 3.4 percent a year ago. As a result, Connecticut's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.5 percent in January.

The rate matches the December figure, which was initially posted at 3.7 percent but has since been revised upward.

That's according to labor force data, produced by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and released Monday by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services.

Waterford-Fort Drum had the highest unemployment rate among metropolitan areas at 8.4 percent, while Binghamton and Glens Falls had the second highest rate among metropolitan areas at 6.8 percent.

North Carolina began 2018 in a stagnant pattern when it comes to the state employment outlook. The number of unemployed Iowans fell to 48,300 in January from 49,300 in December.

"While original estimation showed the number of employed Arkansans declined previous year, revised 2017 estimates have been released and now indicate employment trended up throughout 2017". California added more than 400,000 jobs while Texas added more than 240,000.

Most of 2017 brought good news for Flagler County on the unemployment front, with employment rising by about 1,300, the labor force adding about 1,000 working-age people, and unemployment falling by about 700 overall.

In addition, the private sector gained 9,300 jobs in January from 2017, a 0.6 percent increase.

The number of nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 7,100 to 2,693,900 jobs while total employment increased by 4,000 to 2,942,000, according to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. The February report will be released on March 23.

Industry sectors that recorded over-the-month job growth for January included: professional and business services (+5,800), trade, transportation, and utilities (+4,100), construction (+1,800), financial activities (+1,000), information (+500), and education and health services (+500).

Hancock County's unemployment rate rose slightly in January but still was low enough to tie with Auglaize County for third lowest in Ohio.
