Evidence Of Trump Efforts To Set Up Back Channel With Kremlin

Erik Prince tells Fox News that he never represented the Trump transition, pushes back against allegations he tried to help set up a backchannel with Russian Federation.

The 58-year-old testified before a grand jury last week after he was stopped at Washington Dulles International Airport in January on his way to Mar-a-Lago and served search warrants and a grand jury subpoena, according to two people who spoke to the Times.

"We chatted on topics ranging from oil and commodity prices to how much his country wished for resumption of normal trade relations", Prince told the House Intelligence Committee. The meeting has been previously reported.

The Post said Nader has been cooperating with Mueller and has met numerous times with investigators since he was stopped and questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after he arrived at Washington's Dulles International Airport in January.

The UAE officials suggested he visit the hotel bar and meet Dmitriev, Prince told the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in 2017. "I remember telling him that if Franklin Roosevelt could work with Joseph Stalin to defeat Nazi fascism, then certainly Donald Trump could work with Vladimir Putin to defeat Islamic fascism". He's met numerous times with investigators, the Post reported. Emirati officials believed Prince was officially speaking for the Trump transition team.

On Thursday, the panel was holding a second interview with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who had declined to answer certain questions, saying he needed more time.

The special counsel is looking into the possibility Nader funneled money into the Trump campaign to buy political influence on behalf of the UAE, according to the Times.

While Mueller is probing the circumstances of the Seychelles meeting, he is also more broadly examining apparent efforts by the Trump transition team to create a back channel for secret talks between the new administration and the Kremlin.

Schiff's push for new witnesses comes amid hints the committee could be winding down its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Nader's account is considered key evidence - but not the only evidence - about what transpired in the Seychelles, according to people familiar with the matter.

Schiff also said that he wants Prince to return before the committee and hand over documents that he had promised to share with lawmakers.

The Washington Post, citing USA officials, said such a concession by Moscow would have been required to justify any easing of US sanctions on Russian Federation by the Trump administration.

Prince says the only political conversation was superficial, Dmitriev brought up his wishes that America and Russian Federation could have a better relationship, to which Prince said he agreed, and, "if Stalin and Roosevelt could come together to defeat Nazi fascism then Putin and Trump could come together to defeat Islamic fascism".
