Administrators at a government-run hospital in Uttar Pradesh state have vowed "strict action" after images emerged showing a patient on a stretcher with his amputated limb being used as a headrest.

"Four staff members including two doctors have been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered into the incident", Sadhna Kaushik, principal of Rani Laxmibai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh state's Jhansi town, told dpa.
