President Trump comments on N. Korea-S. Korea talks

In another public departure from the U.S. intelligence community's assessment, President Donald Trump said Tuesday that "other countries and other individuals" may have interfered in the 2016 USA election.

Trump, who has refrained from pointing a finger at Moscow, acknowledged that Russian Federation interfered in the presidential election but said it had no impact on the US vote tally.

"It doesn't look good when it all comes out of China, so they ship it though other countries", Trump said.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that other countries, besides Russian Federation, "probably" interfered in the 2016 election and that he wasn't anxious about Russian Federation meddling in the 2018 midterms. "We're doing a very deep study and coming up with some very strong suggestions on the '18 election".

The president - seemingly out of the blue, as he often does - also touted a potential alternative to hacks of electronic voting systems: "It's called paper", he said, noting some states have non-electronic backup plans.

"Thanks to Vladimir Putin, we've gotten a wake-up call", Coats told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

"Clearly what we have done hasn't been enough", Rogers said.

Löfven was the first European leader to visit the White House since Trump announced he would apply stiff new tariffs on steel and aluminum last week.

"I thought North Korea was terrific", Trump said.

That approach has anxious some lawmakers, who say the administration isn't doing enough to prevent election interference in the future. "We're prepared to go whichever path is necessary". "And they can do whatever they like, but if they do that then we put a big tax on 25% on their cars".

"I think it's the best way to go".

Also last month, a senior communications official, Josh Raffel, who worked closely with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, left the administration. "Not highly complex computers".

The president also reaffirmed the possibility that Canada and Mexico might not face the tariffs if they are willing to offer more favorable terms under the North American Free Agreement, which is being renegotiated.

He attributed the recent momentum toward talks to strict new sanctions applied by the United States.

The Senate's intelligence panel has made a point of distancing itself from its House counterpart, which has been embroiled in a nasty partisan fight centered on two competing surveillance memos. Its home-country automaker Volvo sold almost 83,000 models in the fiscal 2016, making it the company's second biggest market behind China.
