Windows chief Terry Myerson is leaving Microsoft as it reorganizes

The big news around today's announcement from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is that long-time company employee Terry Myerson will retire. Windows platform is already a core part of Azure across both the cloud and edge, and this shift will enable us to accelerate our efforts to build a unified distributed computing infrastructure and application model.

Much of the Windows software effort, called the Windows Platform Team, will move under cloud and enterprise software leader Scott Guthrie's group, along with several AI initiatives.

Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq:MSFT) announced today that Terry Myerson, the Executive Vice President of the company's Windows and Devices Group, will be leaving the company. To alleviate negative consequences of the technology Nadella and Microsoft President and Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith have formed a new AI and Ethics in Engineering and Research group at the company. He will work with me on the transition over the coming months.

This group will focus on how people interact with various computing devices, using multiple senses, Microsoft said in a memo.
