Apple set to smarten up Siri with some help from Google

The conventional wisdom is that Apple is a laggard in the race to infuse consumer technology with artificial intelligence. That role was once held by Apple, whose Siri technology introduced the feature to many, but which failed to capitalise on the lead.

With John Giannandrea's move to Apple, do you think that the company's A.I. initiatives will now have a better chance of dominating the artificial intelligence arena? The hire is an absolute victory for Apple. When he quit his position, he said that wanting to be more closely involved with AI technology was one of the key reasons, and it was said that he would be staying at Google in a more hands-on role.

In the February release of the Singular ROI Index, Apple did rank as one of the top five-performing search ad companies, rising from No 23 in 2016 to No. 6 in 2017 on iOS.

LeBron James breaks Michael Jordan's record for the most consecutive double-figure games
Jordan's streak lasted from March 25, 1986 through December 26, 2001, while playing for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards . In his 15th season, James is leading the league in minutes and top-three in both points and assists per game.

This should make this a bit more spicy between Google and Apple.

Currently, both Google and Facebook are powerhouses when talking about AI, followed by Amazon and Microsoft.

Mr Giannandrea's first job will be to try and find a new path for Siri which most analysts agree has fallen way behind rivals like Alexa and Google Assistant. He originally joined the company after Google bought startup Metaweb, where he acted as Chief Technolgy Officer, in 2010. Apple's Siri has been lagging far behind its competitors in the artificial intelligence market. The Scotland native and Metaweb co-founder, who supplied the underlying technology of Google's Knowledge Graph before leading the search and machine learning teams, apparently shares Apple's "commitment to privacy" and its "thoughtful approach as we make computers even smarter and more personal". Only in the previous year or so has Apple loosen its grip on its researchers enough to allow them to publish papers in the AI community.

Thrilling women's Final Four
In the second quarter, the Irish only had three points - setting an NCAA Tournament record for the fewest points in a period. The victory usually goes to the teams with the poise and the presence to make plays at the end, so congrats to the Irish.

We will have to wait and see if Giannandrea can come up with a way to access copious amounts of data without compromising Apple's principles. It is unlikely that Google's AI department will suffer as much as we expect Apple's to progress. He had been the head of Google search for the last two years and was appointed to that position as Google rolled AI into products used by millions of people around the world.

Machine-learning talent in Silicon Valley is in short supply, and qualified experts have been offered millions of dollars to jump from Google to other tech companies.

Women's fashion and beauty brands among the worst gender pay gap offenders
Universal reported a median pay gap of 16.7% and a mean pay gap of 29.8% while an equal 74% of men and women received bonuses . Figures for Thurrock make for interesting reading but we would advise clicking on the links for more information.
