Missouri governor Eric Greitens 'sexually abused and blackmailed hairdresser'

Missouri governor Eric Greitens 'sexually abused and blackmailed hairdresser'

Speaking just before the report's release Wednesday, Governor Greitens insisted its findings were "tabloid trash" and "gossip".

In the moments before and after the report was released, both Republican and Democratic members of the Missouri General Assembly said they thought Greitens should resign. "Governor Greitens should resign immediately".

Facing mounting calls to resign following sexual misconduct allegations, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens appears to be taking a cue from President Donald Trump as he fights for his political survival amid a #MeToo movement that has felled dozens of other prominent politicians and public figures. "I am disgusted, disheartened, and I believe Governor Greitens is unfit to lead our state", Missouri Rep. Ann Wagner (R) said in a statement.

Once considered a rising star in the Republican Party with a sterling resume, the former Navy SEAL has found his political fortunes badly damaged by the allegations and ensuing felony charge that he invaded the woman's privacy by taking a nude photo of her without her consent. The panel will make recommendations about whether to pursue impeachment.

Republican legislative leaders said they would start gathering signatures from colleagues next week to call themselves into a special session to consider potential disciplinary action against Greitens.

The legislative report was signed by all five Republicans and two Democrats on the committee. It said Greitens declined to testify and failed to respond to its request for production of documents and sworn answers to written interrogatories.

Trump in rape claims over migrant caravan
Trump, when he announced his campaign, said , "When Mexico sends its people , they're not sending their best". To explain that all, I reached out to CNN's Leyla Santiago, who is in Mexico and covering the caravan.

"For the good of the state, Eric Greitens must immediately resign".

"This is exactly like what's happening with the witch hunts in Washington, D.C.", he said, adding he expects to be proven innocent at his trial that will take place in May.

In modern politics, Morris said, a "witch hunt" is usually carried out by one's political opponents.

If the House were to impeach Greitens, the Senate then would choose seven jurists to conduct a trial on whether Greitens should be ousted.

A woman with whom the governor had an extramarital affair in 2015 testified that Greitens was physically aggressive during an unwanted sexual encounter and threatened to distribute a partially nude photo of her if she spoke about it.

"To the extent this report does not include Greitens' perspective, that is the result of his choice not to participate", the report said.

Phil Mickelson leaves Augusta with regrets
Making up the numbers is uncharted territory and Mickelson's post-round comments were tinged with sadness. Still, there were also reminders of his brilliance.

A week later he invited her to his home while his wife was out of town, saying they could not talk in public because he was running for office. After taking her keys, searching her purse, and patting her down, he said he wanted to show her a workout and invited her to change into an outfit he'd put out for her - men's pajama trousers and a t-shirt with a slit cut at the top. "So my heart breaks for his family and the woman's family and everybody involved, but I think he needs to resign".

Greitens' accuser alleged the governor forced her to have sex on his basement floor. If he doesn't, she said it will be up to the House to "restore integrity to the executive branch". The woman said to the committee, "T$3 hen I hear him kind of, like, step back - take a step back and I hear - I can hear like a, like a cell phone - like a picture, and I can see a flash through the blindfold". "The witness also testified that Greitens said, "'Don't even mention my name to anybody at all, because if you do, I'm going to take these pictures, and I'm going to put them everywhere I can'". "They are going to be everywhere, and then everyone will know what a little whore you are, '" the report states.

When she remained silent, the woman said Greitens "spanked me and said, 'Are you going to mention my name?' And I said, I just gritted through my teeth, and I said, 'No.' And he's like, 'Good, now that's a good girl'".

The woman said she wanted to talk to him but he asked to "take her through an exercise", for which he had her change into a white T-shirt with a cut at the top and men's pajama trousers.

The woman told the panel that she never saw an actual photo, but said she knew "he had an iPhone ..." She said she started "uncontrollably crying".

Greitens began kissing her neck and chest and ripped her shirt open to expose her, and pulled down her trousers. She said she gave him oral sex because she felt that was the only way he would let her out of the basement. So I just stood there quietly, and then he came up close to me and he said, Are you going to say anything?

Criticizing 'career politicians,' Gov. Rick Scott says he's running for Senate
Democrats are defending 26 seats , including two independents who caucus with them, while Republicans are only defending eight. It also offers a test of whether a tight alliance with Trump provides more help or harm in the current political environment.

She told the committee that Greitens then laid her down on the ground, preceded to lay down beside her and pulled down his trousers.
