A magnitude six quake shook a number of areas across the island of Mindanao today (Thursday, April 5).

The U.S. Geological Survey claims the quake occurred at 12:29 p.m. from the Channel Islands location, about 38 miles (61 km) southwest of the mainland city of Ventura.

Sgt. Eric Buscho, public information officer for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, says they have received no reports of significant injuries or damage, or an influx of 911 calls, in time since quake struck.

"The Tsunami Warning Center stated that there is no Tsunami danger at this time".

Shaking was also reported by residents in areas such as Tarzana, San Dimas, Long Beach, Pomona and Torrance.

According to a 2015 report by the USGS, the chance of a magnitude 8 or greater quake hitting California in the next three decades is 7 percent.

Shortly after the quake, the Los Angeles Fire Department went into natural disaster mode. "You can't change chance of EQ (earthquake) but you can reduce the chance of damage".
