Nikki Haley says more sanctions against Russian Federation coming Monday

Nikki Haley says more sanctions against Russian Federation coming Monday

The U.S., France and the United Kingdom targeted chemical weapons sites in Syria early Saturday. More than 100 Russian diplomats were expelled from more than 20 countries in March over the poisoning of a Russian ex-spy on British soil, which the United Kingdom and U.S. has blamed on the Russian government.

"They've lost a lot of equipment, a lot of material, and it's gonna have a significant effect on them, so I think the words cripple and degrade are good accurate words", said General Frank McKenzie.

The US Air Force fired air-launched cruise missiles from B-1 bombers, and French and British planes also shot cruise missiles toward the targets.

Tensions between the US and Russian Federation have escalated in recent days over the conflict in Syria.

Syrian officials and state media have boasted that the Western strikes failed, saying that Syrian air defenses intercepted most of the missiles.

But press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that Trump "has been clear that he wants USA forces to come home as quickly as possible". "At the end of the strike mission, all our aircraft safely returned to their bases".

British Prime Minister Theresa May will address her lawmakers Monday.

"It is in our national interest to prevent the further use of chemical weapons in Syria - and to uphold and defend the global consensus that these weapons should not be used".

"We're not going to leave until we know we've accomplished those things", she said.

Syria and its ally Russia deny any chemical attack took place, and Russian officials went even further, accusing Britain of staging a "fake" chemical attack.

He questioned who was responsible for the attack, saying that while it was "highly likely" the Assad regime was behind it, other groups had carried out similar attacks.

Mrs May will ask for an emergency debate to allow more time for discussion in a nod to the fury among MPs at not being consulted, but she is not offering a vote.

When asked on "Fox News Sunday" about "how our relationship with Russian Federation has changed this week", Haley said that relations are "very strained". The Russian government accused the United Kingdom of staging the attack, which the British government says is "ludicrous".

"To Iran and to Russian Federation I ask: What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women and children?" said Mr Trump.

Donald Trump says 'mission accomplished' on 'perfectly executed' strikes
The Russian military says Syria's Soviet-made air defense systems have downed 71 out of 103 cruise missiles launched by the United States and its allies.

Others said they came because, in part, they're afraid of possible repercussions that may follow any action taken by the US.

Jasmine el-Gamal, the Pentagon's Syria country director during the Obama administration, told NPR's Weekend Edition on Sunday that the strikes were successful because they showed that President Trump was following through on his commitment.

Hassan Nasrallah said the strikes were "limited" and were a recognition of the strength of the "resistance axis" - referencing the alliance between Syria, Iran and Hezbollah.

". We can not allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalized - either within Syria, on the streets of the United Kingdom or elsewhere".

"So, it was mission accomplished", said White, the Pentagon spokeswoman.

"Assad knew that Russian Federation had its back, Assad knew that Russian Federation would cover for them at the United Nations, and Assad got reckless, and he used it in a way that was far more aggressive", Nikki Haley said.

"And in that area where they were used, civilians had a huge order of magnitude greater than the chemical weapon victims killed in the last week or so", he said.
