Woman who drove SUV with family inside over California cliff was drunk

A woman believed to have intentionally driven her wife and children off a cliff in the USA state of California was legally drunk, the local sheriff's office said.

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that can cause drowsiness. Debris at the accident site and other material found along the riverbanks also was consistent with that vehicle, officials have said.

The toxicology report was released Friday in California as authorities in Washington state provided details about visits from child protective services to the family's home there.

"At this point, certainly, the theory is the child was from this vehicle", Allman said.
