European Union leaders to forge united front on Trump

European Union leaders agreed on Wednesday to try to keep the Iran nuclear deal alive and maintain their reviving economic cooperation with Tehran after U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from the pact. In a letter to Guy Verhofstadt, the parliament's Brexit coordinator, in which Javid sought to reassure the former Belgian prime minister that the system in the United Kingdom would be smooth and fair, the home secretary said the 27 other member states had so far failed to offer their plans for dealing with British nationals.

In a striking rhetorical assault on the leader of Europe's biggest ally, EU Council President Donald Tusk said that given Trump's recent decisions, "someone could even think 'with friends like that, who needs enemies?"'

"Here again, unity is our greatest strength and my objective is simple - we stick to our guns".

Trade tensions have been growing since March 23, when Donald Trump ordered to introduce a 25% tariff on steel imports and 10% tax on aluminum, claiming to protect the USA producers from unfair competition and boost national security.

Administration officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to provide a candid account of the private meeting. In return, Nielsen reportedly defended her stance and cited laws in several instances to support her comments.

In a scathing attack, former Polish prime minister Tusk compared the Trump administration with Europe's long-time adversaries, Moscow and Beijing.

Shortly after Trump's election, Tusk had joked that his European colleagues had taken to calling him "Our Donald".

"I have no doubt that in the new global game, Europe will either be one of the major players, or a pawn".

"He has made us realize that, if you need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of your arm", he said, according to the Reuters news agency.

Facebook Trouble With Hate Speech
"For hate speech, our technology still doesn't work that well and so it needs to be checked by our review teams". To address the complaints, Facebook is adding more Burmese language reviewers to its content moderation efforts.

"The EU and U.S. are friends and partners, therefore United States tariffs can not be justified on the basis of national security", Tusk said.

Underlining the depth of trans-Atlantic discord, the chairman of European Union leaders Donald Tusk said Trump had "rid Europe of all illusions" by withdrawing from the Iran accord and driving trade disputes.

The EU should also seek ways, together with other partners, to address very real concerns over Iran's ballistic missile program and its regional activities, Tusk said. Some EU leaders have made a direct link between the move and the killing of nearly 60 Palestinians during protests on the Gaza border.

"Our renewed and full support for the European Commission will strengthen its position in the negotiations with the US".

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praises his players for their 100-point-winning feats in the Premier League this season. The numbers are always consequences of what we have done in terms of the way we play, our mentality.

Bulgaria, now holder of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, is hosting the informal working dinner of EU leaders on the eve of the May 17 EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia. "We are discussing this issue with the commission and I would encourage you to press for similar assurances to protect United Kingdom nationals".
