MEMORIAL DAY Scheduled events

Twin Valley Memorial Park; 11:15 a.m. parade in Export; noon Grandview Cemetery: 12:45 p.m. Honor Roll at the White Valley AMVETS.

Here are the events that will honor them.

¯ The village of Celoron and the Celoron American Legion, Herman Kent Post 777, will be holding a Memorial Day service at the Veterans Memorial in Lucille Ball Memorial Park on Monday at 9 a.m.

All events are free and open to the public. Military personnel will stand at attention in one-hour shifts throughout 24-hour period.

The Hastings Memorial Day parade will be hosted by American Legion Post 45 and will begin at 9 a.m.in downtown Hastings on May 28.

Ottawa - 10:30 a.m. parade from the corner of Main and Perry streets.

Fairview Park - Memorial Day DoCare ceremony, Monday, 8 a.m.at City Hall.

At 11 a.m. Monday, the public is invited to a Memorial Day Salute at Columbia Cemetery near the end of School House Street. At about 11:25 a.m. a B-25 and other support aircraft from the Estrella Warbirds will fly over the ceremony. Sponsor: Centerville Civic Association.

St. Paul: 10 a.m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery, 927 Jackson St. Speeches by Ramsey County Commissioner Janice Rettman and Minnesota American Legion District 4 representative Robin Picray. Liam Lawless, a sophomore at Nauset Regional High School, will play taps, Kristin Howard will sing patriotic songs, Sarah Marchio will play bagpipes and Scott "Abraham Lincoln" Hamilton will read his Gettysburg Address. Memorial Day in the park. Guest speakers will be retired Marine Capt. Vern Ellars; Eugene Monay, past commandant, Marine Corps League, Cape & Islands Detachment 955; and retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Walter von Hone. Also assisting will be Meghan Gordon from Crosspoint Church, the Rev. Cecil Williams from Gregg Chapel AME, Chaplain David Meyer with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and Jayson Eason of the Fort Walton Beach High School Band.

The following are some of the Memorial Day programs being held in the area. No charge for veterans.

Latrobe: There will be a Mass at 9 a.m. Participants will include Police and Fire departments, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Martin McDonald, vice chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

At 9:30 a.m. Monday, music will start, followed by a 10:30 a.m.

Anoka: 10 a.m. Monday at Anoka Veterans Memorial, Forest Hill Cemetery, West Main Street and USA 10. Music provided by Harwich Town Band. The guest speaker will be Ken Kensinger. Opening and closing prayers will be offered by Pastor Ron Mains of Forestview Church of God.

Lilly Morgan will recite the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an invocation given by Donald Cunningham. Grassy area near the Minnesota Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Wilson Historical Society's annual Memorial Day Fair will be held from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. Monday on the historical society grounds, 641 Lake St. Prior to every Memorial Day my office is responsible for the placement of American Flags on the graves of over 8,000 Veterans buried in Adams County. The Sons of the American Revolution and the Clarke County Honor Guard will also perform at the service. Christian Heights Church is at 13711 Joshua Way, Sonora.

Boy Scouts will participate in a flag ceremony at 9 a.m., Monday, May 28, at the Camas Cemetery, 630 N.E. Oak St.

For over 100 years, the staff at Linn Grove Cemetery, on behalf of and in conjunction with various Weld County Military Organizations, has honored veterans past and present with a formal ceremony. A wreath will be placed at the memorial. Refreshments and light luncheon will follow the last ceremony at the legion, 109 S. Fifth St. Barbecue dinners may be purchased after the ceremony in the Citizens Bank parking lot, Bluffton.
