Roseanne Barr’s tweet was terrible, with sad consequences

"What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency", the company said in a statement.

"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj", read the tweet, which was reportedly a remark about Valerie Jarrett, a former top adviser to president Barack Obama and an African-American.

Barr added that she will address the controversy Friday on Joe Rogan's podcast.

Barr, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, eventually apologized to Jarrett for the racist and since deleted tweet.

CNN's Don Lemon questioned why ABC gave Roseanne Barr, who on Tuesday drew fierce backlash after making racist comments online, the chance to reboot her eponymous sitcom despite a history of controversial comments and actions.

'I apologise. I am now leaving Twitter'. I don't blame ABC for nearly immediately canceling her show, which preempted an exodus of advertisers.

Before the cancellation, Barr apologized for her tweet, writing "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans", she wrote. "Forgive me- my joke was in bad taste". This week's victor - and the latest to succumb to the temptation to say something stupid - is Rosanne Barr and her racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett.

Barr's tweet on Tuesday may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, but there's a lot to understand about how exactly "Roseanne" came to an end.

ABC's Roseanne stars Roseanne Barr and John Goodman.

For anyone with a computer, tablet or smartphone, social media platforms are merely an arm's length away. "It's not the first time she's done it", Lemon said. "You know who I blame for this?"

But for some companies, the expense of making sure they comply with the new rules was simply too much. Regulators in the USA tried to introduce similar privacy safeguards but were stopped by lawmakers.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have made a decision to cancel her show", ABC president Channing Dungey said in a statement issued Tuesday. It represented the work of hundreds of talented people.

"I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed".

"I'm fine. I'm anxious about the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense".

"#Rosanne?is who she tells you she is with every comment and tweet".

Barr sparked a storm of controversy in the United States overnight when she compared former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, who is African-American, to an ape. "Don't feel sorry for me, guys!"
