Vietnam concerned over tension in Gaza after United States embassy moved to Jerusalem

Guatemala opened an embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday, two days after the United States inaugurated its new site in the contested city in a move that infuriated Palestinians and drew worldwide condemnation.

Daily life for Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip is unbearable.

Israeli forces have killed some 116 Palestinians since the protests began, with one Israeli soldier reported wounded.

There have been numerous calls for an independent investigation into the deaths, with Britain, Germany and Switzerland among those supporting such action.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov however rejected the Israeli spokesman's "blasphemous statement" implying the Gaza deaths were of militants.

The US embassy move has been universally condemned.

Amtrak and most local commuter railroads in the NY metropolitan area said their services were back to normal on Wednesday. Pictures posted on social media showed concourses at Grand Central Terminal jammed with stranded passengers.

The protests, which have seen unsuccessful attempts to break through the fence, have dwindled since Monday, and the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan on Thursday may further dampen interest.

Beside expelling the Israeli ambassador, Turkey has also recalled its envoys to Tel Aviv and Washington in protest against the bloodshed in Gaza where over 60 people have been killed by Israeli forces.

Israel says it is defending its border and accuses Hamas of trying to carry out attacks under the cover of the protests.

The U.S. was among the few countries that came to Israel's defense, backing its right to protect its border on the same day that it countered worldwide disapproval of moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Netanyahu had already exchanged insults on Twitter after Monday's chaos along Gaza's border fence with Israel, which has blockaded the coastal enclave for more than a decade.

In an interview with Baladna TV, a private Palestinian news outlet that broadcasts via Facebook, senior Hamas official Salah Bardawil said 50 out of the protesters killed Monday were Hamas members, with the others being "from the people."That's according to The Associated Press".

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the embassy's opening on Wednesday in an office complex in west Jerusalem.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said Wednesday that he has asked the ICC for an appointment to deliver a "state party referral" of a case against Israel.

Israel considers the entire city its capital, while the Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

The status of Jerusalem is one of the thorniest obstacles to forging a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians, who with broad worldwide backing want East Jerusalem, captured by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, as their capital.

"We are facing a state of blatant aggression against global law and legitimacy which was embodied by the USA embassy's transfer in the occupying state to Jerusalem", said Abul Gheit.
