Warm welcome for hottest early May bank holiday on record

That would make it the hottest overall early May bank holiday weekend, smashing the previous record in 1995 when temperatures peaked on the Saturday at 28.6C.

"It will be cooler around the south east in the mid to high twenties".

Britain looks set to experience its hottest ever May Day Bank Holiday today, with temperatures rocketing 10C above the average for this time of year.

According to forecasters, the glorious weather could continue into the rest of the week in some parts of the country - just as everyone goes back to work following the bank holiday.

Weak weather fronts moving from west to east mean there will be a fresher feel to the air from the middle of the week onwards but temperatures in the south east of England will still be reaching somewhere up in the mid twenties.

It was also the first time a no-hitter had been thrown outside of the United States and Canada in Major League Baseball history. The Dodgers are 9-4 in their last 13 games in San Diego and have won 60 of their last 87 meetings with the Padres overall.

"However, everywhere in the United Kingdom should get at least one warm day at the very least this Bank Holiday Weekend, the only exception being the very north west of Scotland'".

Greg Dewhurst, weather forecaster for the Met Office, said temperatures had climbed to 19C (66.2F) by 10am yesterday and there would be "wall-to-wall sunshine" across the county.

It is important to remember that this Bank Holiday only came into being in 1978.

The weekend's hot conditions were created by a mix of low pressure, light winds and consistent sunshine.

He added: "Edinburgh should therefore see another lovely day, while we believe some fog could affect the south west coast, near Stranraer".

"We're still going to see some dry days, but there's still going to be some wet days mixed in as well".
