Apple designed new headphones

Apple is stepping up its game when it comes to its audio devices, and has plans to launch higher-end AirPods, a new HomePod, and studio-quality over-ear headphones in the near future, according to a recent Bloomberg report. AirPods are a part of it: Apple is making them water-resistant so they're less vulnerable to sweat, and building in noise cancellation, although that won't be arriving until 2019.

The "high-end" or pro version of the AirPods could come with noise cancellation, a feature not not yet mastered by those making truly wireless earphones.

Additionally, Bloomberg has reported that Apple internally discussed adding biometric sensors on new upcoming AirPods in order to increase its health-related hardware offerings, thus stretching beyond the Apple Watch lineup.

Reports of new Apple audio gear have circulated for a few months now.

The Apple Inc. division responsible for accessories such as the AirPods wireless earbuds recorded $12.9 billion in revenue during the last fiscal year.

Along with the new headphones, Apple is also reportedly working on a new HomePod model for next year, although there are no details yet about what that will entail or how it will be different from the current model. The original version of the earbuds faced a delay after it first debuted in 2016. However, users won't be able to swim wearing them.

It's unclear exactly what the new HomePod will look like, but it's likely the Apple product that needs the most work.

Apple could refresh its entire line of audio-focused products as soon as next year. Although no name for the headphones has yet leaked, they're expected to launch at some point in 2019.

Apple is also working on a wireless charging case for the AirPods that would be compatible with its yet-to-be-released AirPower charging mat. They are said to offer improved sound quality. Apple plans to remedy this issue by shaking up its supply chain. Sources said the device will directly compete with models from Bose Corp. and Sennheiser and will use the Apple branding because it is going to be the higher-end alternative to the Beats line.
