Figures show about 2000 minors separated from families

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a press briefing at the White House Monday afternoon that children are separated from adults attempting to cross the border illegally to protect them from smuggling or trafficking.

"The policy now being enacted where children are being separated from their parents even when they're applying for asylum, we want that to stop", said Acosta.

Attorney Jeff Sessions on Monday defended the Trump administration's controversial immigration policy that has resulted in the separation of undocumented children from their parents at the U.S. border, saying, "We're doing the right thing".

The law does not allow children to be detained together with their parents as children are not prosecuted for crimes. In the past, families in this situation have typically been subject to civil deportation proceedings instead of criminal prosecution.

The policy has been widely criticized by church groups, politicians and children's advocates who say it is inhumane.

Meghan Markle's dad was reportedly paid more than $50k for TV interview
I sort of disagreed with that but I still like Harry. "I couldn't be more proud of those two, I think they'll do a fabulous job". Angela Levin, a royal commentator and a biographer of Prince Harry , revealed Ms Markle would have been upset but the interview.

The Trump administration has vigorously defended its zero-tolerance policy amid outrage over the family separations.

John Oliver is not the first person to blast the Trump administration for using scripture to justify its practice of separating children from parents accused of entering the United States illegally.

The show also addressed one of the most dire, upsetting, and urgent stories in the United States news now: the separation of children from their parents at the border. "If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless".

Sen. Pat Roberts and Rep. Lynn Jenkins condemned the practice of separating families. Moderate Republicans have been trying to negotiate a plan that would reduce family separations and also open a door to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the U.S. as children and who stayed illegally.

A "zero tolerance" policy from Attorney General Jeff Sessions mandates all border-crossers be treated as criminals.

China slams US 'blackmailing' after Trump makes new trade threat
China's Commerce Ministry lambasted Trump's new tariff threat, saying it violated prior negotiations between the two countries. The Trump administration has announced plans to target products from China including machinery, electrical goods and vehicles.

Sessions' comments came during an interview on Fox News.

While Trump has transparent contempt for his Attorney General because he recused himself from the Russian Federation probe and put the President in jeopardy, the White House backed Sessions' invocation of religion for the immigration measures.

"It's completely unacceptable under any moral code or under any religious tradition to injure children, inflict trauma on them in order to send some political message to adults somewhere overseas", he said.

"We're a society of people", she said.

In the House, top Democrat Nancy Pelosi attacked the separations as a "barbaric" policy that "has to stop".
