Work from home and seeking a change in scenery? The $10,000 grant is meant to help remote workers cover the cost of computer software and hardware, broadband access or upgrade, membership in a coworking space, and other work-related expenses. Alaska uses oil royalties to pay its residents to live in the state.

The legislation is an attempt to bolster an aging population in Vermont. The legislature has appropriated $500,000 for the program, which is still being designed, said Joan Goldstein, commissioner of economic development.

State officials have already been overwhelmed with the response to the moving incentive program. Subsequent calendar years' grants are to not exceed $100,000 annually.
