Wimbledon: Serena Williams named 25th seed

Wimbledon: Serena Williams named 25th seed

Nearly a month after withdrawing from her Round of 16 match against Maria Sharapova at the French Open because of a pectoral injury, the 36-year-old Grand Slam veteran has drawn a No. 25 seed for competition at London's All England Club.

"But it's just not fair if there is a player [who misses out] and it's me now". Wimbledon usually follows the latest rankings but can make a change if "necessary to produce a balanced draw". Serena, 36, missed Wimbledon last year while preparing to give birth and has endured a rocky time since resuming her career earlier this year.

"It's the right thing to do for these mothers that are coming back", said Katrina Adams, who is the United States Tennis Association president.

One of them, Slovakian former Australian Open finalist Dominika Cibulkova, is the player most disadvantaged by the decision to seed Williams, as she is 32nd in the rankings and would have taken the last seeded spot.

John Stones also scored two and Jesse Lingard scored England's third goal. I just thought we were a little anxious at the start.

So French Open champion Simona Halep is No. 1, Australian Open Caroline Wozniacki is No. 2, reigning Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza is No. 3, and U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens is No. 4.

For Wimbledon, seedings generally had followed the WTA world rankings, which protects players who have been out due to injury but not those absent due to pregnancy.

In the men's draw, the grass-court Wimbledon formula sees Roger Federer, looking for an eighth singles crown, confirmed as top seed ahead of world number one Rafael Nadal, the French Open champion.

Her first Slam of her return came at Roland Garros where she was unseeded. "I have tried and I should be seeded".

However, on May 31 the White House announced that those exemptions would be ending at the end of the day. Trump has also ordered tariffs be imposed against Canada, Mexico and other USA allies, as well as China.

In 2011, tournament officials seeded Williams, its defending champion, No. 7 although her ranking at the time was 26th in the world.

The draw for Wimbledon will take place on Friday. The slide resulted from a near year-long absence triggered by a freak injury, in which she stepped on broken glass and later developed blood clots in her lungs following her 2010 Wimbledon championship.

Unless a seed withdraws before the start of the tournament, Cibulkova could potentially face Halep or even Williams in the first round. "She wants to continue to play". "Maybe not in time for me, but for the next person", she said.

Saudi women hit the roads after ban on female drivers ends
For almost three decades, outspoken Saudi women and the men who supported them had called for women to have the right to drive . Another 2,000 more will join the first ten, all of which passed driving courses now offered at all-female university campuses.
