Argentina asks Russian Federation to arrest visiting Iran official over 1994 bombing

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was also headed to Moscow for a meeting with Putin.

The former foreign minister also praised cooperation between the two countries in the worldwide arena, including on the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as well as in defense, economic and security sectors.

Ali Akbar Velayati, while visiting Moscow on July 13, also rejected USA and Israeli demands that Iran's military get out of Syria, saying that will happen only if the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad asks Iran to go.

The meeting, which Velayati said was "very constructive", took place as looming USA sanctions against Iran are expected to hit the country's oil sector heavily, causing supply shortages on the oil markets in the fourth quarter.

Haaretz reports that Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also met Putin in Moscow on Wednesday, and urged the Russian president to demand that Iranian forces leave Syria.

"We haven't had a problem with the Assad regime, for 40 years not a single bullet was sacked on the Golan Heights", the Israeli premier was quoted by Haaretz newspaper as telling reporters who accompanied him on the Moscow visit.

Iran and Russian Federation back Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country's civil war. But it is not clear if Russian Federation will press Iran to remove those forces from Syria completely as Israel has demanded. During the interview, Velayati disclosed that a Russian oil company recently signed a $4 billion contract with Iran's Ministry of Oil.

Syrian state media said Israeli jets fired on military positions in the southwestern Quneitra province, inflicting material damage.
