Judge orders Paul Manafort moved to suburban Washington jail

Judge orders Paul Manafort moved to suburban Washington jail

Manafort joined the Trump campaign in March 2016 and led operations until August, a period including the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Judge Ellis addressed Manafort's complaints about location by ordering his transfer to an Alexandria prison.

For several weeks, they've complained that the 100-mile distance between Northern Neck Regional Jail in rural Virginia and the Washington, D.C. area is making it hard to prepare Manafort's defense.

In response, U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III ordered Manafort moved from his current jail to one in Alexandria where the federal courthouse is located, so he could be closer to his lawyers. In the meantime, he said Manafort would be moved from the Northern Neck to the jail in Alexandria, in suburban Washington, "to ensure that the defendant has access to his counsel and can adequately prepare his defense".

For many years, she denied touching the stuff at all - despite the fact her lips were expanding at an exponential rate. She didn't talk about it for a long time but eventually opened up about how she was insecure about her lips.

Manafort was reportedly not required to wear a prison uniform and was allowed to use his laptop in his cell, they said.

Manafort is charged with bank and tax fraud in eastern Virginia and is separately charged in Washington with counts including money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent.

Mueller argued today that the revocation of Manafort's bail has not been "unduly interfering with his ability to prepare for trial", especially as his living circumstances are "in various ways less restrictive" than for other inmates. They also said Manafort has said in the calls that he is able to visit with his lawyers every day and that he has "all my files like I would at home". Manafort's lawyers have asked a judge to relocate a criminal trial starting later this month because of pretrial publicity.

Manafort's trial in Alexandria is scheduled to start July 25. Visitors' logs show Manafort having multiple visits each week with his lawyers, according to the prosecutors.

Manafort has been jailed since last month after a judge revoked his house arrest.

Attorneys for Manafort also took issue with prosecutors' revelation of the content of some of Manafort's personal phone calls and suggested that Manafort was sugar-coating his conditions of confinement to ease the concern of friends and family.

The context for Manafort's comment wasn't clear but he is facing charges related to his work on behalf of clients overseas, including the onetime government of Ukraine and a powerful Russian oligarch.
