New Zealand repeat as Women's Rugby World Cup champions

Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 represents the third edition of the women's competition and the seventh of the men's, which was first held at Murrayfield, Scotland, in 1993.

Ireland produced a surprise result when they beat England 19-14 in the last 16 only to suffer a 45-0 quarter-final loss to defending champions New Zealand.

The victory follows New Zealand's victory in the women's 15-a-side World Cup past year, as well as their gold medal in the Commonwealth Games sevens competition in April.

The Black Ferns were the favourites to triumph among the females but in the men's competition it was South Africa and Fiji who had been expected to meet in the final.
