Roma mull legal action after Barcelona hijack Malcom deal

Monchi says Roma are considering legal action after a proposed deal for Bordeaux winger Malcom collapsed, with the Brazilian instead joining Barcelona.

Malcom subsequently agreed a five-year contract with the Catalan giants and sporting director Monchi is frustrated at the way Roma's planned move for the 21-year-old fell apart.

Bordeaux then met with Malcom's representatives on Tuesday to discuss the transfer which is when Roma pulled out, with the club looking to see if they have a case for legal action.

It seems like Roma has been cheesed off and Malcom got in touch with the little boy in him and opened the door when Barcelona came knocking at the 25th hour.

But Barcelona made an increased offer at the last minute.

"I told him we had an agreement, but he told me we hadn't signed anything". Just a couple of days back, Malcom looked all set to join AS Roma and the Italians were suddenly starting to look like a talent-mine of sorts with some very enterprising and young players all set to take the new season by storm.

"We started a negotiation with Bordeaux and the player, through his agent, more or less a week ago". At 11pm we submitted a formal document with the offer president Pallotta was willing to make.

"I called [Bordeaux president Stephane] Martin, and he told me that an offer had come in from Barcelona that was better than ours and that if we did not raise our offer we could not have the player".

"Therefore, I said "that's it" because I didn't want to go into an auction".

Malcom, who has yet to represent his country at senior level, began his career in his homeland with Corinthians and was part of the Campeonato title-winning side of 2015 before moving to France in January 2016. Although we don't have any signed documents, I have lots of messages from [Malcom's] agent and [Bordeaux's] president.

"The Brazilian will undergo a medical on Wednesday morning and then directly join the FC Barcelona US Tour", read a statement from the Spanish champions, whose deal for the player includes an extra one million euros in variables.

Barcelona's newest acquisition posed for the cameras next to the Barcelona badge at the club offices on Tuesday evening.

But Roma opted against a further bid, with Monchi telling Roma's website on Monday: "I was surprised to be told that the agents and Bordeaux wanted another improved offer, as Barcelona were still pushing for a deal".

The youngster spent two years at Bordeaux, during which he scored 23 times in 96 games.
