Secret Trump-Cohen Tape Shows ‘An Obvious Fraud’

We can hear then-presidential candidate Trump saying "pay with cash", raising the question of whether he was referring to buying the silence of former Playboy model Karen McDougal, with whom he allegedly had an affair shortly after his wife, Melania Trump, gave birth to their son.

During the conversation, Cohen assured Cuomo he was not running a tape, the Journal reported - telling the reporter he was putting the phone on his desk and the conversation was off the record.

Cohen replies, "We'll have to pay". "One-fifty?" Trump asks. Cohen says, "no, no, no" but it is not clear what is said next. The Enquirer had already purchased McDougal's account of her affair with Trump earlier in 2016 and then never published it. Trump and Cohen appear to be discussing a second payment to McDougal (and there is no indication that it was ever made).

"We were not going to let Michael become a punching bag", Lanny Davis, Mr Cohen's new lawyer, said in explaining the move.

Syrian news agency Sana said Israel had targeted the jet over Syrian airspace, but did not say whether it was hit. Israel has shot down several Syrian regime drones in the previous year .

"Ultimately Michael Cohen seems to be a person who will be first and foremost concerned with protecting himself", Zelizer added.

Giuliani contested Davis's interpretation and released the Trump team's version of the transcript, which contradicts Davis.

McDougal later sued, claiming that AMI paid for the story with the intention of burying it to protect Trump. Cohen said at the time "In a private transaction in 2016, I used my own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000 to Ms. Stephanie Clifford".

Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, denied that the audio proved that Trump was offering to pay in cash.

But it's okay to spit at us and our staff? She's trying to drive around France and it's very intimidating for her, to be spat at. Thomas added: "It was certainly unfortunate that it was still lingering around when we came through".

Mr Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis, took to Twitter to respond warning: "Just as Richard Nixon learned, tapes don't lie!" "The president brings up cash and says don't pay with cash and says 'cheque, ' He wants it memorialised", Mr Giuliani said.

Weisselberg isn't a bit player in Trumplandia and his emergence on the Cohen-Trump recording - as someone possibly facilitating a scheme apparently meant to disguise a payoff - should worry the president.

As the president's longtime lawyer comes under increasing pressure from a federal investigation, there are reports that he has turned on Trump and is cooperating with investigators. "If you wanted to hide something, you would not do it by corporation or cheque". Giuliani has said the payment was never made. Cohen has denied wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crimes. Federal prosecutors investigating Cohen are in possession of 12 audio recordings seized during raids of Cohen's home, office and hotel room, according to new court filings.
