Super-Mom Serena into 10th Wimbledon final

Super-Mom Serena into 10th Wimbledon final

Kerber has her heart set on winning a first Wimbledon title after booking a return to the final.

Angelique Kerber has had a remarkable 2018 season thus far. "I had a hard birth, multiple surgeries, I nearly didn't make it".

But against Williams, who hit the fewest unforced errors among the four remaining players before the semifinals, she had a mountain to climb.

Williams was in control from the outset against 13th seed Gorges, who was making her Grand Slam semi-final debut.

Williams vs. Kerber will be a rematch of the 2016 final at Wimbledon. In the week leading up to her first-round match against Viktoriya Tomova, Williams posted a daily countdown on Instagram that included flashback Wimbledon photos and uplifting sentiments.

"This was not inevitable for me", Williams said after the match, which took 70 minutes to complete.

"I was expecting a few more baby steps myself", she said. I'm enjoying every moment.

In the driving seat, Williams began hitting the ball cleanly and with her customary mesomorphic beauty, holding her serve and then breaking Goerges, this time to love.

Serena Williams says she will be "ready for the match of her life" when she faces Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final on Saturday. She's one match from making that happen, 10 months after childbirth.

Williams whose daughter Olympia was delivered by an emergency caesarean section on September 1, will play in the final, two months after taking a front row seat at Meghan's wedding in Windsor.

Especially at the All England Club, where a relatively routine 6-2 6-4 victory over 13th-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany on Thursday (Friday NZ Time) put Williams one win away from an eighth championship. "I think it will be just like the last final, it will be really good".

The Latvian stuck to her guns, continuing to go all out at the start of the second set, but her radar was way off and Kerber quickly opened up a 3-0 lead, with one break of serve. That's wildly impressive. Believe me, I know she wants to go out there and win. I think that's what I was doing in the past, I was limiting myself. But the American discovered to be human and double faulted as Goerges played her best shots of the match to create her first break point chances.
