Thon Maker Involved In Insane Basketball Brawl During FIBA Qualifying Match

After being part of a awful fight in the Australia-Philippines' FIBA World Cup qualifier game on Monday, Andray Blatche - who spent nine seasons in the National Basketball Association - took to Twitter to explain why he didn't just use his words.

The fight spilled into the area behind the baseline, and video showed a chair being thrown at the back of an Australia player either by a fan or member of the Philippines team staff.

It resulted to the ejection of a total 13 players in a scuffle between the Philippines and Australia.

Four Aussies - Goulding, Kickert, Sobey and Maker - were ejected from the game. "We never meant to be disrespectful or to challenge Philippine basketball".

"Basketball Australia unreservedly apologizes for the removal of decals from the court at Philippine Arena prior to the Australian Boomers vs Philippines FIBA World Cup qualifer tonight", the statement read. "We are extremely disappointed with what happened and our role in it", Moore said.

Anthony Moore, the chief executive of Basketball Australia, issued an apology for his team's part in the ugly incident.

The bench-clearing event was sparked by the exchange between Pogoy and counterpart Chris Goulding, who played a huge part in the Australians' breakaway that started in the second quarter.

Ultimately, 13 players were ejected from the game, and CNN reports that the basketball governing body FIBA has opened disciplinary proceedings against both sides.

The game ended in an 89-53 win for Australia.
