Incentive for Everton and Newcastle United to keep tabs on Danny Welbeck

Incentive for Everton and Newcastle United to keep tabs on Danny Welbeck

Unai Emery mixed formations up during pre-season, playing 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 most regularly, but with City's frightening attack, Emery may opt for a more defensive minded set-up.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has ruled out the prospect of England striker Danny Welbeck leaving the club this month but said that Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina, and Joel Campbell have all been informed they are surplus to requirements.

Arsenal's away form equalled relegated West Brom last season and they failed to pick up a win on the road in 2018 until the last game of the season.

"And for that this news, for me, is positive, and his commitment to Arsenal is for me the most important".

Opening games against City and Chelsea will provide a flawless test for Emery and his team who will be desperate to improve on last season's sixth-place finish.

Uruguay youngster Torreira ready for 'scary' Arsenal move
But the official confirmation of a transfer has been delayed by Torreira's worldwide involvement with Uruguay in western Europe. Torreira was waiting for the World Cup to conclude, but with Uruguay now out he is free to make his move to London.

Emery's first season in English football will be a huge test.

"(On Thursday) the window closed here in the Premier League", Emery told a news conference on Friday. "Then, the contract is for speaking with the club and the players".

Vida has been frequently linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer with Liverpool also interested.

Emery also announced his choices as club captains.

Swiss veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner and Greek worldwide Sokratis Papastathopoulos were signed from Juventus and Borussia Dortmund respectively to bolster a creaky defence.

Conor McGregor will fight against Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov for UFC lightweight title
McGregor was arrested, but was sentenced last month to perform five days of community service, avoiding jail time in a plea deal. McGregor was an event first and foremost, and whether or not a competitive fight ever came out of it was never really the point.

Petr Cech and new signing Bernd Leno both were handed starts in pre-season but Emery is expected to start the latter after bringing him in for £20million from Bayer Leverkusen.

But without Champions League action, Arsenal are no longer a big draw for Europe's top stars. Arsenal also signed veteran defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner - who is the Switzerland captain - and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who are also seen as strong personalities both on and off the pitch.

It might be a while before the Emery revolution bears fruit, but his attention to detail and desire for a high-tempo pressing game should make Arsenal a tougher unit than Wenger's skilful but spineless group.

"Arsenal are going to play this pressing game and could they catch City off guard?"

Beijing is expected to hit $16 billion worth of United States goods with equal tariffs in response to Tuesday's move. It would likely have to impose penalties on US companies doing business in China to make up the difference.
