Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hits Indonesia's Lombok island; tsunami warning lifted

The United States Geological Survey said a magnitude-7.0 tremor took place at around 11:46 a.m. local time off the country's Lombok Island, which is near Bali.

A major natural disaster has hit Indonesia's Lombok island and authorities issued a tsunami warning urging residents to head for higher ground.

A tsunami warning was lifted after waves just 15 centimeters (6 inches) high were recorded in three villages, said the head of Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Dwikorita Karnawati.

Healthcare added 34% fewer jobs in July
Average hourly earnings rose by 0.3% in July month-on-month, a gain of 0.1 percentage points in line with economists' estimates. Ahead of this morning's new jobs report , most projections said the US economy added roughly 190,000 jobs in July.

The natural disaster was felt for several seconds in neighouring Bali, about 100km away, where people ran out of houses, hotels and restaurants.

"The latest data we have is that 19 people are dead at Tanjung Hospital (North Lombok)", Agus Hendra Sanjaya, Mataram search and rescue spokesman, told AFP.

On July 29, a 6.4 magnitude quake has struck off Lombok, province of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia followed by 66 aftershocks with the highest of those with a recorded magnitude of 5.7. That quake was felt in Bali but caused no damage there.

Last week, a magnitude 6.4 quake hit Lombok killing 16 people.
