Massive wildfire becomes largest in California history

NOAH BERGER via Getty Images Flames leap above a vehicle on High Valley Road as the Ranch Fire, part of the Mendocino Complex Fire, burns near Clearlake Oaks, California, on Sunday. The blaze was only 30% contained.

The fire remained several miles from the evacuated communities along the eastern shore of the lake, but "it looks like there's dicey weather on the way", California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokeswoman Jane LaBoa said. Add to this aircraft from across California, not just prop tankers, but DC-10s, C-130s and of course the famous Tanker 944 the 747 supertanker, and one begins to see the enormous financial cost of fighting the fire, not to mention the huge loss of property, and cost of rebuilding.

A combination of wildfires raging north of San Francisco, which already has consumed an area nearly as big as Los Angeles, is on pace to become the largest in California history, fire officials said.

On Sunday, Trump tweeted Sunday that the wildfires hitting California are "being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren't allowing massive amount of readily available water to be properly utilized".

"The water that reaches the ocean is what's left after we've diverted most of the water away for cities and farms, and what little is left is barely enough for California's aquatic ecosystems and the fisheries", he said.

Trump pressures China with threat to crank up size of proposed tariffs
Consumer price inflation is also rising and starting to erode the real value of wage rises. There was no immediate reaction from the Chinese government. "It will slow the economy".

"California's forests and rangelands aren't dry and burning because of CA's water policies", Gleick said.

The Mendocino Complex is now considered the sixth-largest wildfire in California history.

"The big fires have scores of water-dropping helicopters getting water from nearby lakes and reservoirs", he said. Its absence tells the story behind Trump's fire tweet: He has no idea what's causing the bushfires this season, no conception of how to fight them and no plan in place to alter the trend of more fires or more severity.

Trump's tweet went on: "Must also tree clear to stop fire spreading!" Jerry Brown, a Democrat, "must allow the Free Flow of the vast amounts of water coming from the North" instead of "foolishly" diverting them into the Pacific Ocean. That fire, which is now 43% contained, has destroyed more than 1,000 homes and burned over 160,000 acres.

This is the seventh death associated with the Carr Fire, and the ninth death of this wildfire season.

Syria claims to down 'hostile target' during airstrike near Damascus
One report quoted Israeli military sources as saying the Israel Air Force had "no operation" on Thursday night. The incident took place on the southern Golan Heights, near the triangle of Syria, Jordan and Israel borders.

The president criticized Gov. It is 45 percent contained. But the number of acres burned this year at 292,455 is about 50 percent higher than the 219,369 acres burnt last year and more than double the 118,811-acre average for the last 5 years.

Yosemite Valley is home to some of the most famous destinations of the park.

The wildfire about 225 miles (360 kilometers) north of San Francisco started more than two weeks ago by sparks from the steel wheel of a towed-trailer's flat tire.

President Trump blamed environmental laws yesterday for intensifying wildfires in California, in his first tweet about the ongoing disaster that has killed at least seven people. The state's fire agency, CalFire, said it has not had problems accessing water.

The Mendocino Complex Fire is one of over a dozen large fires burning in California at the moment.

Tesla burns $739.5 million in cash on way to record 2Q loss
Tesla went through $739.6 million in cash between April and June, less than the $900 million Wall Street analysts had forecast. The company has never turned an annual profit and has had only two profitable quarters since becoming public in 2010.
