My Security Revocation is Trump Attempt to Silence Critics — Former CIA Chief

Former CIA director John Brennan is sworn in to testify before the House Intelligence Committee to take questions on "Russian active measures during the 2016 election campaign" on Capitol Hill in Washington May 23, 2017.

In an op-ed for the New York Times, Brennan argued the decision to strip his security clearance and review others' is created to muzzle the president's political opponents.

Mr Brennan also said that he first learned of the move on television, describing it as typical of the "impulsive manner by this White House and Mr Trump". "And these people led it".

But Trump, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, connected Brennan and other intelligence officials with Mueller's probe. The original statement released by the White House on Wednesday included a date of July 26, although aides said that was an error.

If Director Brennan's statement is based on intelligence he received while leading the CIA, why didn't he include it in the Intelligence Community Assessment.

"Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs", Mr McRaven said.

This led some to speculate that Trump chose to withdraw Mr Brennan's security clearance weeks ago, but delayed the announcement for political reasons.

"I call it the rigged witch hunt, (it) is a sham", Trump said in an interview with the newspaper on Wednesday.

The initial White House statement about Brennan's clearance made no reference to the Russian Federation investigation.

"My principles are very important to me having been raised in a good Irish family that really put honesty, integrity and proof above all else".

"Clearly, I think Mr. Trump is getting more and more concerned, more and more desperate, more and more frightened", Brennan said.

Democrats, and even some Republicans, lined up to denounce the president's move, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democrat from California., slamming it as a "stunning abuse of power".

Brennan has been vocal in his attacks on Trump, at one point saying that Trump's performance at a joint news conference last month with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki was "nothing short of treasonous". Since any potential obstruction of justice charges Trump may eventually face could relate to the information he received then, Brennan may eventually be called to testify about these events.
