Bob Woodward 'Fear: Trump In The White House' Bombshell Revelations

According to Woodward, Mattis told staff to ignore a tirade by Trump against Syria's president Bashar al-Assad in the wake of a chemical weapons attack in April 2017 and the U.S. president's alleged statement: "Let's fucking kill him!"

The book says that Mr Trump's former lawyer in the Russia probe, John Dowd, doubted the president's ability to avoid perjuring himself should he be interviewed in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference and potential co-ordination with Mr Trump's campaign.

At one point Mr Kelly, the chief of staff, reportedly said of Mr Trump during a staff meeting: "He's an idiot". He always knows where I stand and he and I both know this story is total BS.

Kelly denied the claims and said: "The idea I ever called the president an idiot is not true".

U.S. President Donald Trump wanted to have Syrian President Bashar al-Assad assassinated past year but his defense secretary ignored the request, according to a new book that depicts top Trump aides sometimes disregarding presidential orders to limit what they saw as damaging and unsafe behavior. "Let's f**king kill him!"

In another section, top aides told Woodward that they conspired to remove documents from Trump's desk that, if signed by the president, would have removed the United States from a trade agreement with South Korea.

According to Woodward, when Trump finally condemned them, he nearly immediately told aides: "That was the biggest fucking mistake I've made" and the "worst speech I've ever given".

Mr Trump's erratic instincts and lack of curiosity about national security issues have alarmed senior foreign policy advisers, according to Mr Woodward's book.

Trump accused Woodward of making up quotations attributed to Kelly and the U.S. defence chief, James Mattis.

Haley said she'd been in all the conversations about responding to the Syrian attack and "I have not once ever heard the president talk about assassinating Assad".

Woodward wrote his "Fear: Trump in the White House" based on interviews with "sources", and "meeting notes" and the like. According to the Post, it portrays a Trump White House that's filled with second-guessing by members of Trump's staff, who repeatedly bad-mouth him behind closed doors.

Dowd told Trump later that month: "Don't testify".

Trump called the allegation that officials removed paperwork from his desk to prevent him from signing it "false" and "made up". "I would have taken that resignation letter and shoved it up his ass six different times", Kelly told Cohn. "This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administration's many successes'".

However, Mr Kelly has denied making the comments.
