Even While Touting Own Accomplishments, Trump Can't Help But Jab Obama's Speech

It's one of the main reasons the Tea Party movement was born and why Republicans retook the House in historic action in 2010. That's how real change starts, Obama said. Its central organizing principle in foreign policy was the fight against communism, and now they're cozying up to the former head of the KGB.

Noting the history of former presidents avoiding the rough and tumble of politics, Obama acknowledged his sharp critique of Trump was something of a departure from tradition. He also criticized Republicans in Congress for failing to hold Trump accountable.

"In 2016, voters rejected President Obama's policies and his dismissiveness towards half the country".

The Illinois speech, in which Obama referred to the "state of our democracy", was created to deliver a message for Democrats for the coming midterm elections.
