A SWAT team and bomb squad investigators were searching Perez's apartment hours after the shooting in the hopes of learning more about him, but police didn't release any details about the search.

Santa Perez is also believed to have been living in the Greater Cincinnati area since at least 2015.

Police Chief Eliot Isaac said the killer used a 9 mm handgun and was carrying magazines with some 200 rounds of ammunition.

Federal agents were on the scene as police searched through the building.
