Trump warns Syria not to 'recklessly attack' Idlib province

"The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy".

"On Iran, Iran has been put on notice that the continued mischief they've caused around the area, the murder that they have caused, the support from Syria, and what they're doing with Assad." said US Defense Secretary James Mattis during a press conference at the Pentagon on Friday.

It follows comments by Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, that "terrorists must be purged" from Idlib and the entire northwestern province returned to government control.

"All of Syrian territory must be preserved and all the sects and groups should start the round of reconstruction as one collective and the displaced should return to their families", Zarif said, according to Fars News.

He met with Syrian President Bashar Assad and his Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, who is just back from a visit to Moscow.
